Class – Full Beginners
Teacher:
Matus
Days:
TUESDAY / THURSDAY
Time:
04:45 PM
Duration:
60 min
Date:
September 24 – December 15, 2026
This course is designed for complete beginners – no prior knowledge of Slovak is required.
We use our own teaching materials, exercises and speaking activities rather than following a traditional textbook in class.
Everything covered during your lessons – grammar explanations, vocabulary, examples, exercises, notes and homework – is collected in a shared online document that remains available to you throughout the course.
By the end of the course, students will have built a solid foundation in Slovak and will be ready to continue with the next A1 course.
You will study in a mini-group of 3–6 students, which ensures plenty of speaking time for everyone and a supportive, interactive atmosphere.
By the end of the course, you will be ready to continue seamlessly in a follow-up course, gradually progressing toward conversational Slovak.
We start from zero. You will first become familiar with the Slovak alphabet, sounds and pronunciation, learn how to read Slovak words, and practise essential phrases you can use from your very first lessons.
You will learn how to introduce yourself, talk about your family, work, home, things around you and everyday activities, ask and answer basic questions, and handle simple conversations.
We will cover the essential foundations of Slovak grammar, including noun gender, nouns and adjectives, present-tense verb conjugation, personal pronouns and basic sentence structure.

Learning a language is a journey, not a single course.
We believe in being transparent about language learning and setting realistic expectations from the beginning. Learning a language takes time. If you can study Slovak only once or twice a week, progressing through a full CEFR level will naturally take time.
We would rather be clear about this from the start than promise that you will reach A1 or A2 within an unrealistic timeframe. We don’t promise shortcuts. We help you make real progress.
This course is the first step of A1 and is designed for complete beginners.
Our courses follow a structured CEFR learning sequence based on the Krížom-krážom curriculum developed by Comenius University in Bratislava. We use it as a roadmap to make sure that grammar, vocabulary and communication skills are covered in a logical order.
One Slovak Friends course typically covers approximately 3–4 learning units, depending on the course format, frequency and pace of the group.
Please note: completing one course does not mean completing a full CEFR level.
Your learning journey may look like this:
Full Beginner → Lower A1 → Mid A1 → Upper A1 → Start A2 → Lower A2 → Mid A2 → Upper A2 → …
When your course ends, your group can continue with the next course from exactly where you finished. You enrol in one course at a time, so there is no need to commit to the entire A1 or A2 level in advance.
If you need to reach a particular level by a specific date – for example, for an exam, work or residency requirements – a standard course once or twice a week may not be intensive enough. Contact us and we can recommend a more intensive study option.
